SCSD2 believes children need healthy meals in order to learn.

As part of our commitment to provide every student with the resources to succeed, we offer free or reduced meals to students who qualify.

Reduced price meals are $0.30 for breakfast and $0.40 for lunch

(for comparison to full prices, see our Meal Prices page).

Understanding that financial circumstances can change during the school year, you may complete an application at any time.

However, to avoid accruing a lunch balance, we recommend completing an application prior to school starting.

Applications are available online via the parent portal or in paper form at schools/the District office.

Eligibility for meal benefits from a previous year runs through the first 30 days of the following school year. After that deadline, families will begin accruing a lunch balance unless a new application has been submitted and approved.

*If you qualify for meal benefits via programs such as SNAP or McKinney-Vento, you will automatically receive the benefit and do not need to complete an application. However, if you no longer qualify for those programs you must complete a Free/Reduced Meal application in order to continue receiving meal benefits.

The following are frequently asked questions regarding eligibility for these programs. We encourage you to review the free and reduced meals application for additional questions about eligibility and to apply for the program.

Who can get free meals?

All children in households receiving benefits from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations, or, in some States, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) can get free meals regardless of your income.

Do I need to fill out an application for each child?

Only if one of your students attends John C. Schiffer Collaborative School.

You must complete a separate, paper Schiffer application to qualify for free/reduced meals for your Schiffer student.

You may complete a single application for all students attending other SCSD2 schools.

Be sure to include ALL students as members of the household on both the regular application as well as the Schiffer-specific application.


We cannot approve an incomplete application.

Applications received with missing social security numbers, signatures, etc. will be delayed in processing, which may lead to your household accruing a lunch balance. Make sure your application is complete and accurate when you submit it, and feel free to contact the school secretary or SCSD2 district office (307) 674-7405 with any questions.

In addition to completing the paper Free/Reduced Meal application, SCSD2 also offers families the ability to complete an online application (for all schools except John C. Schiffer Collaborative School).

To complete the application, you will need to have a parent portal set up.

Prior to beginning the Meal Benefits Application, you will need to know your e-signature pin. If you haven’t set one up or don’t remember what it is, click on the person icon in the top right hand corner of your screen and select “Settings”:

At the bottom of the following page you will be able to create or edit your e-signature pin (you will be asked for the PIN when you are completing the Meal Benefits Application):

Next, click on the three lines in the upper left hand corner of your screen. This will open a black menu field. Select “More” at the very bottom:

From the “More” menu, select “Meal Benefits”, then click on the blue “click here to start the application process” link, and you will be walked through the steps necessary to complete your Meal Benefits Application. To file a program complaint of discrimination, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form, (AD-3027) found online, and at any USDA office, or write a letter addressed to USDA and provide in the letter all of the information requested in the form.
