- Wyoming Teaching License $158.00/day
- Retired Teacher (Non-SCSD2) $161.00/day
- Retired Teacher (SCSD2) $168.00/day
- Long-term Substitute Assignment Additional $6.00/day
- Wyoming PTSB Endorsement in Subject Area of Long-Term AssignmentAdditional $20.00/day
Substitute Teacher Work Day Incentives (this includes both teacher and para sub days):
- 0-10 days worked/month Daily Rate of Pay
- 11-14 days worked/month $75.00/month
- 15-19 days worked/month $100.00/month
- 20+ days worked/month $125.00/month
To substitute teach in Wyoming, you must carry a Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) certificate. This permit is valid for five years and is eligible for renewal.
When applying for a substitute permit, the following fees will be assessed by PTSB:
- $50 for the permit (valid for five years)
- $50 for the fingerprinting processing
- SCSD2 offers fingerprinting free of charge for individuals applying for PTSB certification. Please contact Human Resources at 307-674-7405 ext. 5000 for more information.
There are two ways to meet the requirements for a substitute teacher permit. To receive a permit, follow one of the paths listed below:
College Credit Path
- Complete at least 60 semester hours or an associate’s degree from an accredited college/university.
- Successfully complete the US and Wyoming Constitution exams. If you have taken one or both of these at the college level and can provide transcripts for these courses, you have satisfied this requirement. If you have not taken these college level courses, you will need to contact our office to arrange for the tests to be administered. There is no fee to take these tests in our office.
- Submit a complete application packet for a Wyoming Education Permit and required documentation, including fingerprints. Our office can provide you with completed fingerprint cards to send in with your application, and we are happy to assist with your application process. Alternative Path 1 (*currently not facilitated by our district)
- Hold a high school diploma or GED.
- *Complete 24 hours of in-service training and 30 hours of classroom observation (10 hours at each level: elementary, middle and high school).
- Successfully complete the US and Wyoming Constitution exams. If you have taken one or both of these at the college level and can provide transcripts for these courses, you have satisfied this requirement. If you have not taken these college level courses, you will need to contact our office to arrange for the tests to be administered. There is no fee to take these tests in our office.
- Submit a complete application packet for a Wyoming Education Permit and required documentation, including fingerprints. Alternative Path 2 (Onsite training offered by NWCCD/Johnson County Campus)
Complete the Effective Substitute Teaching class (EDCI 1005). This course is offered through Sheridan College at the Johnson County Campus in Buffalo, Wyoming. The requirements for the course, syllabi and sample schedule are listed below. This is a two week course offered every fall and spring semester. Tuition for this course is $238 and requires an additional $100 fee payable to PTSB for the application and fingerprint fees. By the time you have completed the class, you will have met the requirements for the 24 hours of in-service training and 30 hours of classroom observation.
