Tribes is a 30-minute mandatory remediation class for every student at Fort Mackenzie High School. This class is scheduled every day in Block III with a certified teacher in each class. Academic standards and interventions are taught during this class. The objective of this class is to meet Fort Mackenzie’s Action Plan, increase student performance on standardized tests and meet state standards.
There are five sections of academic focus:
- General Test Taking Strategies
- Reading Strategies
- Language Strategies
- Writing Activities
- Mathematics Learning Strategies
Evaluation: Completion and grading of all weekly activities. Increased student performance on all assessments.
Students participate in Reading activities for 20 minutes and Writing to a variety of prompts for 10 minutes. Students read a variety of grade level materials, applying strategies appropriately to various situations.
Benchmarks: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, and 1.7
Evaluation: Improved reading scores on the district and state assessments.
One day a week students are engaged in a fund raising activity that incorporates a variety of academic skills from content areas. Students write for a variety of purpose and audiences with sophistication and complexity appropriate to grade level.
Benchmarks: 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6
Students effectively manage time, money, facilities and human resources. Students demonstrate an understanding of how social, organizational and technological systems work.
Evaluation: Quality written proposals.
One day a week students develop community service activities, which are performed after school. Students write for a variety of purposes and audiences with sophistication and complexity appropriate to grade level.
Benchmarks: 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6
Students recognize and use language appropriate to a given purpose, situation and audience.
Benchmarks: 4.3, 4.4, 4.5
Students effectively manage time, money, facilities and human resources. Students demonstrate an understanding of how social, organization and technological system works.
Evaluation: Build and maintain appropriate community networks.
One day a week students review major components of the Discovery Program. This will improve students’ academic and social skills in the regular classroom setting. Develop appropriate social skills instrumental in working with groups and expressing personal opinions in an appropriate manner.

Gain and apply knowledge of differences in family, groups and ethnic cultures.
Benchmarks: 1.6, 1.7
Evaluation: Reduced number of discipline referrals. Use of appropriate social skills in the school setting. Increase student attendance. Increase student’s academic performance.
