Summer Camps and Programs:

Center for a Vital Community Youth Civic Leadership Camp-(Camp Fire):  (307) 675-0831

The CVC created the Youth CiViC Leadership Camp which takes 8th graders to the Big Horn Mountains in partnership with the Sheridan County YMCA to learn about themselves, identify their leadership skills and engage in fun, challenging activities to use them most effectively. Camp is open to all Sheridan and Johnson County 8th graders and is FREE to all attendees.  It takes place over 3 days and 2 nights at the YMCA of the Big Horns.  Camp dates: June 11th-14th, 2019

Students who participate in summer camps with Joey’s Fly Fishing Foundation partake in week long programs that emphasize mentorship, while learning about and enjoying fly fishing activities.

College for Kids is an annual, summer enrichment program offering sports, arts and crafts, Science, rocket building, cooking and outdoor activities. The 2019 session will be held at Sheridan College.  The program is for kids going into 3rd-12th grades. Flyers typically come out the first week of May, and are distributed to grades 2-5 at their schools and go to the junior high as well.

This is a one week session for visually impaired youth at the Allen H. Stewart Lions Camp on Casper Mountain, located just south of Casper, Wyoming.  The camp is owned by the Lions of Wyoming Foundation.

Northern Wyoming Mental Health Beyond the Bell Summer Edition:  (307) 674-4405 1221 West 5th Street

This is a summer day treatment program provided by NWMH with a curriculum to promote healthy relationships, positive independence and increased social, behavioral, and emotional skills.  It runs from June 17th-August 15th, Monday-Thursday from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Program is designed for 1st-6th grades.

The Sheridan Recreation District provides summer programs, May through August, for Sheridan County children. Activities includes baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, football, swimming, fishing and hunter education. Information is also provided for the skate park and Kendrick Pool schedule of hours.  

*Scholarships from the Rec District are available to families in need by filling out a one page application, which can be picked up at the Recreation District Office.

Compass Center for families will be offering parent education seminars during the summer. Topics include: Nurturing Parenting Philosophy and Practices, Ages and Stages of Infants and Toddlers, Brain Development in Children and Teens, Communicating with Respect, Building Self-Worth, Understanding Feelings, Family Morals, Values and Rules, Praising Children and their Behavior, Alternatives to Spanking, and Dealing with Stress.  The Food Group seeks to alleviate childhood hunger by providing food on the weekends to children in Sheridan County, Wyoming who need it.  Please contact the program directly if your child could also utilize this support during the summer and refer to the attached flyer for the little, free pantry locations.


Sheridan Community Gardens:  

Call:  (307) 461-1107 for more information.   Sheridan has seven, community gardens that are open to the public. Cost: 400 square foot plots for $40 per plot. Emerson Garden also has a chicken coop with chicken rotation for caring for and collecting eggs.

The Story Fish Hatchery grounds are open from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily; The Lake Trout Brood Stock Pond Area, Visitor Center and restrooms are open 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. daily. The Story Fish Hatchery has a fantastic visitor center which is a must-see, first stop on your visit to The Story Fish Hatchery; here you will find updated information about the fish, the facility and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Informative signs are also now found at all important outdoor locations. Please note that children must be attended at all times and that all pets must be on a leash. Please park in the designated parking area to your right as you come in the front gate. Handicap parking is available along the front of The Fish Hatchery building, and access can be granted to handicap visitors. Please contact a worker before proceeding.
