FBLA Excels at State Competition
From Sharon Deutscher, FBLA Sponsor:
Future Business Leaders of America was able to have its state competition this year via online testing and Zoom presentation. We appreciate all the State team did to get this accomplished. This year was the best year yet for Sheridan FBLA. It could be that we focused on our events more this year or the testing environment, but I believe the students showed intense dedication and drive to succeed that propelled them into success.
If we had our regular state competition, Sheridan High School would have been asked to come on the stage nine times. This is a huge accomplishment and honor. As it looks right now, we have nine students who qualify for Nationals, and another five who can go to Nationals because they made it within the top 10, so we have 100% of our team going to Nationals this year. This is a first for Sheridan FBLA. I am very proud of these young students, and I am delighted that their growth over the past school year, or even past years, has led them to these outstanding accomplishments. I had a strong senior class, and they will be sadly missed next year; they have accomplished their own goals and have built FBLA into a strong club for our school and community. We are excited to see what the future of our club holds, as we use the foundation they have created to foster more success and achievement in the future.
Besides working on their events for State, the students were also working on individual community service hours. The FBLA Community Service Awards (CSA) recognizes FBLA members for their extraordinary commitment to community service. There are three levels of recognition based on the cumulative numbers of hours a member contributes to community service activities:
- CSA Achievement – 500 hours
- CSA Service – 200 hours
- CSA Community – 50 hours
SHS FBLA Community Service Awards:
- Brooklyn Bowie: CSA 406.25 hours
- Gennah Deutscher: CSA 259.75 hours
- Berkley Smith: CSA 211.25 hours
- Seth Deutscher: CSA 203 hours
- Hanna Detmer: CSA 80.5 hours
