Session Description:

How do The Daily 5 and CAFE work together? This session will begin with an overview of The Daily 5 as a component of the reading workshop and how explicit modeling ensures student independence. Participants will learn which foundational skills are necessary for students to be successful, as well as how to teach them. The CAFE portion will focus on how to use student data to guide the implementation of whole group, small group, and individual conferences. By using the CAFE Menu that is aligned to the Common Core State Standards, teachers will be able to guide students in the process of creating their own learning goals and developing ownership of their learning.

Speaker Bios:

Erika Jorgensen is currently a 3rd grade teacher at Woodland Park Elementary.  She received her  minor in special education, which helped provide meaningful differentiation in her classroom.  She works closely in a PLC to implement Daily 5 and CAFE.

Kristie Reimers has taught multiple elementary grades and is currently the Literacy Coordinator at Woodland Park Elementary, a K-5 building.  After completing her MA in Reading and Literacy, she continued to develop her knowledge by becoming a certified Literacy Coach through the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and obtaining her National Board of Professional Teaching Standards certification.
