Session Description:

How do you get the most bang for your buck when teaching the reading process and deeper comprehension strategies with older students while also trying to meet the CCSS expectations? Close Reading is the answer! Participants will be introduced to Close Reading, as well as how to structure an effective shared reading experience that will take all readers to a deeper level of understanding in order to meet the rigorous demands of the CCSS. Through analysis of both narrative and informational texts, participants will understand how to implement the Close Reading process into any classroom. Used as a component of the Balanced Literacy Model, Close Reading provides a strong reading foundation so Literature Discussion Groups and Independent Reading times lead to deeper comprehension strategies that promote higher level discussions.
