Welcome to the SCSD2 Food Service Web Page!
Since the early days, the school meals programs have been aimed at safeguarding children's health and well-being. USDA's School Meals Initiative for Healthy Children reinforces this goal by establishing specific nutrition goals for school breakfasts and school lunches and making available some additional menu planning alternatives for meeting these nutrition goals.
Sheridan County School District 2 uses the Traditional Food-Based Menu Planning system. This meal pattern is designed so that over a period of time, school meals will provide children with approximately one-third of the nutrients they need.
Offer versus Serve (OVS) allows students to decline any two food items in the meal. This minimizes plate waste and gives students the option of which foods (including milk) to select. The meals are priced as a unit regardless of the student's selection.
Meal prices: Breakfast (Elementary only): $1.00 Elementary Lunch: $2.50 Junior High/FM/WP Lunch: $2.75 Sheridan High School Lunch: $3.00 Adult Lunch: $4.50 A school lunch consists of five different food items from four food component groups. The five food items are; one serving of meat or meat alternate; two servings of different vegetables or two servings of different fruits, or one serving of fruit and one of vegetable; one serving of grain or bread; and one serving of fluid milk. A school breakfast consists of four different food items from four food component groups. The four food items are; two servings of grains/breads or two servings of meat/meat alternate or one serving of each; one serving of fluid milk; one serving of juice/fruit/vegetable.To ensure the nutritional consistency and address health concerns of our students, menus are carefully followed. Monthly nutritional information is available on our district website for Elementary Breakfast and Lunch, Story Elementary Breakfast, and Secondary Lunch menus. We will not serve peanut products at any elementary school with the exception of Story Elementary Breakfast. We are required to have any students' special dietary needs (as prescribed from a medical professional) on file. This will help us serve that student to the best of our ability when providing them a hot lunch or breakfast. We encourage parents to take an active role in their child's health and help them monitor their dietary needs.
****HEALTH BAR****
****HEALTH BAR****
This year in all elementary schools (exceptions: Meadowlark and Story)...along with the hot lunch menu selections, students and adults will be able to choose from a variety of fruits, vegetables and grain products each day at the "Health Bar". We encourage everyone to select only what they are able to eat. Junior High, Fort Mackenzie, Wright Place and High School students will be allowed to go to the Health Bar a second time, but each student must request a second trip by checking in with the cashier to verify the initial meal purchased and receive a clean container. Health Bar foods may not be shared at any time with friends bringing a sack lunch or those who chose not to eat hot lunch for the day.
We encourage family participation in our lunch program and welcome you to eat lunch with your children. As a courtesy, please call the school office by 9:00 a.m. each day to make reservations and allow the kitchen staff time to prepare additional servings of the menu.
